Hiring a bunch of researchers and bug hunters to break into your network after spending millions of dollars carefully securing it may not seem like the brightest of ideas. But sometimes, conducting a simulated attack on your infrastructure is the best way to surface hidden vulnerabilities in it.
These Team Exercises are an all-out attempt to gain access to a system by any means necessary, and usually includes cyber penetration testing, physical breach, testing all phone lines for modem access, testing all wireless and RF systems present for potential wireless access, and also testing employees through several scripted social engineering and phishing tests. These are real life exercises carried out by an elite small team of trained professionals that are hired to test the physical, cyber security, and social defenses of particular system.
The WOAS Cyber Security Team Exercises (WCSTE) program provides the Institution an opportunity to leverage its greatest assets – People. By providing a comprehensive approach to training and awareness, WCSTE ensures all levels of Personnel Departmental are informed of their cyber security responsibilities and possess the appropriate skills for their functional roles to adequately protect information and information systems.
In this section of training, you will find information on developed role-based/core competency courses as well as other WOAS training programs available to cyber professionals. You will also have access to foundational documents and other reference material that may be useful when developing cyber security specific project in your organization.
Our industrial clients are typically not in control of all aspects of the security of their systems. In many cases they have outsourced the physical security to one outsourced organization, the cyber security monitoring to another entity, and may also use contractors and outside firms for securing the IT systems. Since all it takes is the weakest link for a security breach to occur, it is important to test all facets of a security program to determine where the breaking points exist. For this reason, we advocate using a Team Exercise to mimic the same process that a motivated attacker would follow to map out an organization’s infrastructure, perform reconnaissance at key physical installations, and then test the physical, cyber, and social defenses all at once through a staged exercise.
The program suggests minimum training requirements for key cyber roles and offers specific curricula that can be utilized by Senior Management to provide user and role-based training.
WCSTE is intended for Senior Management and IT staff of an institution or organization, with the aim of training their teams in order to increase knowledge and techniques to be able to identify and protect against cyber threats.
